Low-temperature carburizing is a surface hardening treatment of austenitic stainless steels surface hardening treatment of austenitic stainless steel by solid solution of carbon. and produces a metallic structure called S-phase (expanded austenite) in the hardened layer, hardening the surface while maintaining corrosion resistance and non-magnetic properties compared to high-temperature carburizing. Less distortion compared to high-temperature carburizing.
